Pawn Kongkosonkichkan · Public Service AnnouncementCandidate for Pomona USD Board of Education, Trustee Area 4
I never imagined I would attend a school board meeting, much less run for public office.
In 2023 I saw parents raising concerns about parental involvement, transparency, and the direction of public education. I began paying closer attention, and then I looked at my district's own academic results.
Our current board member has been in office for 16 years and the facts don’t lie – we are spending nearly 60% more per student each year since 2018–2019 and only 1 of 3 students are meeting standards for ELA and 1 in 4 are meeting standards for math.
We are failing the students of Pomona and I can’t walk away – it’s time for change.
A strong school district should respect parents, help students achieve academically, maintain safe learning environments, and manage public resources responsibly. These four priorities guide my campaign.
Transparency in district decisions, clear information, real opportunities to participate, and timely communication from schools.

A note on this platform. My priorities will continue to develop as I listen to our community, review district information, and learn more about the needs of PUSD students and families.
Parents are essential partners in their children's education. They deserve transparency from the district: clear information about curriculum and instructional materials, open explanations of major decisions, meaningful opportunities to participate in district decisions, and timely communication from schools.
I believe parents should be treated with respect, their concerns should be heard, and families and educators should work together in the best interests of students.
Every student deserves a strong foundation in reading, writing, and mathematics. PUSD should measure academic progress honestly, identify students who need additional support, and communicate clearly with families about student achievement.
I believe academic programs and taxpayer-funded resources should be evaluated by whether they are helping students learn and succeed.
Every student deserves a safe, orderly, and welcoming school where learning can take place without fear, intimidation, bullying, or disruption.
I believe PUSD should maintain clear behavior expectations, respond appropriately to safety concerns, support students and staff, and communicate responsibly with families when serious incidents occur.
PUSD is entrusted with public funds that should be managed carefully, transparently, and in the best interests of students.
I believe taxpayer dollars should support strong instruction, safe schools, student services, and essential classroom needs. Major expenditures should be connected to clear priorities, responsible budgeting, and measurable results.
I will approach school board service with humility, preparation, and accountability. I will listen before making judgments, seek accurate information, respect the responsibilities of district staff and educators, and work with the full Board toward practical solutions.
I do not believe a trustee needs to arrive with every answer. I believe a trustee needs to be willing to ask the right questions, seek accurate information, listen to the community, and work collaboratively to find solutions.Pawn Kongkosonkichkan
Educate.Equip.Engage.
We owe every child more than a diploma. We owe them an excellent education that equips them with the knowledge, skills, and character to succeed in life.
As the daughter of an immigrant from Thailand who became a proud United States citizen, I learned that education, hard work, and personal responsibility create opportunity. Those values have shaped my life and guided my commitment to serving others.
Serving young people has been a lifelong commitment. I served as a Big Sister through Big Brothers Big Sisters, spent eight years at Genesys Works preparing students for college and careers, and today work as a technical recruiter, where I see firsthand the knowledge, skills, and character today's employers value.
Since early 2024, I have faithfully attended and spoken at Pomona Unified School District Board meetings because Board decisions have a lasting impact on children and families. Every decision should put students first.
I believe parents are their children's first and most important teachers. As your Trustee, I will champion parental rights, make decisions that prioritize academic achievement and safe learning environments, and be a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars.
I will listen, lead with integrity, and put students first in every decision.

No. I don't have children of my own, but I have spent my career helping other people's children get ready for what comes after graduation, first as a Big Sister and then through eight years at Genesys Works. I have a brother in a neighboring school district and family across school districts in Southern California. Every child in Pomona deserves an advocate on the Board, and I intend to be one.
The Board sets district policy, approves the budget, hires and evaluates the superintendent, and holds the district accountable for student outcomes. Trustees don't run individual schools. They set direction and ask the questions that keep the district focused on students.
Yes. I have attended and spoken at Pomona Unified Board meetings since early 2024. I've heard what parents and teachers are raising, and I've watched how decisions get made.
No. School board races in California are non-partisan, and I intend to keep it that way. Party platforms should be set aside so the Board can make decisions based on what is best for students.
